The Story: 34 years ago, in a cold morning of April 2nd, a war would start for the possession of the Malvinas, you may know them better as Falklands. Without disputing the conflict at heart, which is for a me a difficult one, taken that I was born there, but for many many years my home is England, the memory of these events is a sour one to put it lightly. You see the military service at the time was compulsory in Argentina, which meant that thousands of 18 to 20 years old boys, some with no training or skills at all, were sent to fight in very hostile weather conditions (the Malvinas are almost in the south Pole) Still, all these young men (and 16 women, nurses, taken after the war was started) fought and with courage defended their country fighting with all their might. The war lasted 74 days, taken the life of 649 Argentinians, 255 British soldiers and 3 Island's civilians. This is a page specially dedicated to the very young boys who fought, the hundreds that were left behind and the returned and their families. Praying for the story never to be repeated.
Page Design: I wanted to use mostly metals and looked for rusted or old , then army green and greys and dark colors to represent a dark event, I was set to make a page with no color at all, but when I chose the burnt paper I started finding a good balance with the golden ish/copper metal. The lady blended in the back gives me the idea of looking back (and she has a sad look) I wanted the page not to be neat, as to me all events of this kind are anything but clean, so I added paint splatters and the messy stitches and the darker, chunkier stitches to hold the layered frames, and paper bits with the photo. I made the alpha and then applied an effect from my program (what you call styles for PSE)
Supplies: Made on Craft Artist Professional by Serif, alpha and title text made with the program and styles from it. The kits: Quirky Heart: Always Remember,Amber LaBau & Jenn CK: Aviator Collab . Also here: ViVa Artistry: Illuminated Journal V, Studio Mix 57, 1776, Broken Hearts and Destinations. The journaling font is Notera.TFL!
This is just the best tribute page ever. I love the image faded into the background, the over-the-top splendid cluster and your wonderful heartfelt journaling. WOW, just, WOW.
@Iowan you just made my day/night and morning after Carol....... I'm actually of to sleep is almost 1:30 am ...you are guaranteeing me a good night sleep, Love you !!!!!! thanks so so much!!!!!!!
@cookingmylife it was a weird time for me.... even though some of my family are military, a huge numbers of my friends are in the army or are army wives in both Brazil & Argentina, I am not pro war. I am actually dead against it. At that time, I was living in Rio but was called by a friend of mine who was also a singer, to come to Buenos Aires to do Bossa Nova gigs in the city as they were not playing anything English on the radio -like if the poor musicians had guilt on the conflict...ridiculous..... but it made me a ton of money. We were performing 3 bars per night Thu Fri Sat & Sunday, and on top of that I got a gig for a musical for children..... I also have a close friend who is doctor in the Burns Institute in Bs As and I had seen first hand the damage inflicted on those poor kids without any proper military training.... and then, who would have thought...I end up living here.... where, I should add, 60% of the population has no idea where they are, and a good 35% don't even know the place exist...... I'm not keen on Argentina as a country overall....the people in the capital are (most of them) arrogant and consider themselves the Europe of South Ameruca.... but the suffering during the dictatorship is something none, never, anywhere, should be going through..... there are gazillion of pages about the USA military so I thought when I got the assignment I go for this... anyway, I'm sure you weren't looking for so much blah blah on this... LOL so I go now
