OMG i feel this one. Dealing with mice at the moment. Due to putting in a chook pen & a few have ended up in the house. Totally freaked me out and having to deal with baits, traps etc was all new. Its the smell for me. Love the strong story telling , heres hoping that there will not be many to deal with in the future.
Great page Marilyn, and so brave my dear friend.. yup they are cute until they invade your space without being invited! I had hamsters and even then when a mouse got in the house as a kid I would not get off the couch until it was caught LOL.. they are cute, but not when they are not in a cage as a pet! I am proud of you getting over your fear and taking care of it the way you are doing it now, now that John can't do it for you anymore. Big hugs my dear friend, and I loved reading your journaling and the way you scrapped this. So proud of you my dear! Bravo!
@tappy@cfile@trekmom Thank you all. Luckily (knock on wood) they are confined to the garage and the shed and NOT the house. I feed chipmunks and squirrels and raccoons and all variety of birds, so I wouldn't even mind the mice maybe... But they are destructive and have eaten wires on our vehicles. Disease is one thing I hadn't thought of...
And Christa, I have been known to jump on the sofa screaming in the old apartment we had where mice who roamed free. Kindred spirits.
@mcurtt for sure.. mine was my Dad and brother left to go hunting and while they were loading the car in November had the door open and a field mouse got in...Later on at night, I was watching TV on the couch and saw a flash in the kitchen. (Mom always had the floor waxed with the hard wax so there was a shine)... anyway she wanted me to go and brush my teeth but I wouldn't get off the couch. It was so funny as my Dad's friend came to check on us knowing my Dad left, and Mom had to ask him to go down to the 7-11 to get a trap as I would not go to bed until it was gone... LOL (Like really I think they can climb up the upholstery LOL).. anyway Bill came back with a trap, Mom set it and we waited. She then said enough is enough.. go brush your teeth... on tip toes (why? LOL) I went down the hall to the bathroom and as I got to the door sill we heard a snap and we caught it!... My Dad and brother came back without a deer and Mom said well we caught something and showed Dad the trash can outside and had him remove the mouse from the trap.. it was really funny!
They're just so sneaky and destructive! And quick. Ick! I don't blame you for wanting to avoid them, but I am sitting over here proud of you for sucking it up and facing the fear. I know John would be proud of you, too. Love your journaling-focused page and the simple element borders...so brave to even include an image of a mouse! Way to go!
This page is impactful in its design, and the story, though such a simple moment, is full of emotion. Since my dad passed away in June 2023, my mom has been struggling for many of the same reasons. Even though she is fully capable of doing things herself, and quite frankly, he was not very useful in his last year, he was there. Now he's not.
@Lynne-Marie So sorry for the loss of your father. And hugs to your mother. Yes, I have had to dig down deep to do a few things I'd never done before. Most people save the trap to re-use. Nope, not going there. They are inexpensive enough.
The reminders of all the things he used to do for you as a team just keep coming, I am sure :-( I hate having mice in the house and live in the middle of a forest. I do think they are cute but not in the house! PS I am blown away by this masterful page.
