When I was a kid I didn't really learn to stand up for myself. Maybe that wasn't really necessary then?
But during my marriage that did cause problems, when I made proposals, they were dismissed as not good and I didn't dare to oppose him.
In the meantime I have learned to be assertive. I ended my marriage and went to live alone. That was quite a liberation!
I do have the impression that if I was taught as a child to be more assertive, I would have had a completely different life. Would it have been better? Maybe...
