Journaling:
This little guy holds very special meaning to me. Back in March 1988 my Mother
was diagnosed with having Lung Cancer, and she had to go to the hospital on
St. Patrick’s Day for an MRI, prior to her lung surgery. My Dad
and I were waiting in her room for her to return from radiology,.
As we waited a Leprechaun came out of no where walking down the
hall, with his Shalalie and handing out gold coins. The gold coin here
is the actual one he gave us. We thought this was great luck for
Mom. We asked the nurses if they saw the Leprechaun and they
all said no. Dad and I were perplexed as we had coin in hand as
proof and told Mom she missed seeing the Leprechaun. This went
on for a bit until we left to go home. Finally the one Nurse caved
and shared with us that the Leprechaun was a gentleman who had
Community Service, and would dress up for each holiday and visit
the patients in the Hospital to cheer them up. Dad and I stopped
off at the Hallmark card store and bought this little Leprechaun
mouse, and he placed it in their curio cabinet all those years.
Mom was with us for 2 more years passing away in 1990, and we
both felt Lucky to have her those 2 years. Dad too has since passed
away - in 2012. Up until he went into the hospital, he and I always
talked and laughed about the little Leprechaun we saw and how
everyone was saying they never saw him. It was a sweet memory
Dad & I had between us.
After we packed up Dad’s house to sell, I just had to have our
Leprechaun Mouse and the actual gold chocolate coin that Leprechaun gave us. It
is 28 years now, but the memory is as fresh today as it was on March 17, 1988.
