She Saved Herself

Created for the These Moments Matter Month of Challenges by Pixels, Paper and Paint - Life in Pictures by Lynn and Rachel Prompt #5 Overlooked Details

Telling the story of a little detail I overlooked for months, the hat my daughter was wearing to hide her secret: she had started pulling her hair out. This was a long time ago and she now has lovely long curly hair.

What a heartfelt layout! It's beautiful to read how far your daughter has come, her journey is truly moving. Gorgeously scrapped!

Oh this is hard. She is so beautiful. Glad to hear she has managed to keep it in check. Two people in my family have this, so I can definitely relate xx

@scrapchyck Yep. Never fails to fascinate me/ sadden me that there is a gene that causes this. But also how men get such a pass on things like pulling out their eyebrows, pulling off their nails or at their skin …. makes you realise what constant scrutiny women are under regarding their appearance.

@LynnG Indeed. Their dad is a red head, so you hardly even notice unless you look real close, so yeah, no one cares. But I can only imagine the bullying she would have gotten, or maybe did, that she never talked about. The ironic thing is both my boys inherited male pattern baldness from me. One totally embraced it, shaved his head at the first sign and grew a gnarly beard. The other one is super self-conscious, and it feels like this huge elephant in the room he doesn't want to discuss, is trying to cover up. So, I guess guys have things, too, but truly attitude makes all the difference.
