journaling reads: At the age of 10 I was standing as a spectator looking at
the annual Korolev run in the town that later would be also
known as Korolev, but then still Kaliningrad, the town I was
born in. There were runners from all over the region, and
some of them were the same age as me. I wanted to run.
We hadn\'t planned for it, so I wasn\'t registered nor did I
have a number like the other runners, I just persuaded my
Mum that I will do a lap next to the runners, and come
right back. She agreed. I wore jeans and a checkered shirt
and my prized possession, a pair of my first kitty heels...
But that didn\'t stop me. I discovered that once you started,
the way the loop was organized, there was no turning back
and the shortest loop was 10 k. So to avoid being killed by
my Mum was running it as fast as I could. I joined the
running group for kids "Ant" - or Muravey in Russian &
did myutmost best to keep up with them. We finished the
loop in under 50 minutes. But as you can imagine about
40 minutes too long for the mother who is desperately
looking for her lost child in a large crowd.
Part 2: When Sasha turned 9, she finally got better from her
asthma, so much so that she felt strong enough to
take part in Corsa della Speranza, the Run for Hope.
It's a 5 K run, and she has never run so far, so I
wanted to accompany her, I had to go buy myself a
pair of running shoes, otherwise I\'d have to run in
heels again. Little did I know that the shoes would
get quite a bit of use, it's now been 4 times that
we ran it, and we will do it again, come September.
The first time back in 2010 Sasha mostly went on
the scooter, then, the year after she ran more &
more, and last year she ran it all, AND she was
faster than we did with Mila on the scooter.
