When I first saw this quote earlier today my heart dropped and the first thing that came to mind was that of my grandfather. My grandfather has been gone a little over a year now, but there is not a day where he doesn't cross my mind at least once. You see he was a major part of my life. Grandpa was one of those grandfather's people wish they had. He was extremely involved and invested in the lives of his family. His greatest pride and joy was that of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was one of the first people I would ask advice. Grandpa Har was always around. He would take time out of his day to make all our events from drama to basketball games. Grandpa would even show up at the great grandkids field trips to help out. He taught us how to make old fashion rosette cookies in his garage and how to drive by letting us sit on his lap as a young child and driving down the dirt road to his beloved cottage on the lake. He truly loved making us all happy.
Some of my earliest memories are weekends at my grandparents house. Our special secret trips to the icecream shop before dinner to late night card games or even snuggling on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn watching late night TV. And who could forget the trips to the cottage to catch fish of all sizes.
Grandpa had a heart of gold and was the one of the only people to come to my rescue when the world let me down. When I left my past marriage to domestic abuse and became homeless; it was grandpa who let me live in his cottage on the lake until I got back on me feet rent free. He was there to share in all life's moments good or bad.
I will always cherish these moments. I fear I took them for granted while he was alive. We always believed it would be grandma who would pass first. Ever did I think I would loose my grandfather. Loosing him made me realize how short life truly is and how precious these moments are with each other.
Oh gosh, the collection of photos of your grandpa are amazing and your journaling, so heart warming and wonderful. Your page is a beautiful tribute to a very important person in your life!! It's lovely!
