"I was named after my paternal grandmother, Mary Catherine Lahey, whom I never met (she died about 6 years before I was born).
As a child, I didn’t always like my name. Indeed, when I was four years old, I asked my mother if I could register for kindergarten as “just plain Mary” rather than as Mary Catherine. But while my mother agreed to my request, when it came time to register, I found I couldn’t part with the “Catherine;” and I’ve been Mary Catherine (but with the nicknames of “Mary Cath,” “Mary Kate,” or “MC”) ever since.
I’m glad that my father (in typical Irish Catholic fashion) named me after his mother: it has given me a real sense of connection to the grandmother I never knew."
Love the journaling and the cute second grade photo. It's a nice bit of info for your family's future generations to have. I too was named for my paternal grandmother, who I never met either - for the same reason as you. I wish I had named my children after family members for the same reason you mentioned - to provide a connection to their forebears. I like that you chose a 'schoolish' scheme to scrap the story.
That photo is so sweet! I love the story of your name, and love that you stuck with it. The paper on an angle with the pencil works so well with that photo
Funny isn't it, how we always feel meh about our names until something happens and then we realise it is basically the core of us! I like your double name, my Goddaughter is called Amy-Jo after her x2 grandmothers and I am the ONLY one who uses it. I love your layout, I like that you used a piece of notepaper and that you used a 'little' photo of you, really cute.
