Journaling:
I love when children are old enough to create their own birthday party. The theme is decided – Japanese. The food is chosen – okonomiyaki and sushi. The decoration making occurs – paper mache Japanese-flag inspired piñatas filled with Japanese sweets. And I haven’t lifted a finger. The only sadness is that with increasing age comes the independence to say that no cake is desired. Can you really have a child’s birthday without staying up until the midnight hours to ice the cake? Previously the kids have asked for jelly instead but candles in jelly are a bit precarious. Candles in okonomiyaki – that will be a first for us!
