JOURNALING: We discovered this little French cafe on Broughton Street in July, 2012. Opened in May 2009, Ann Marie and Herve Didailler wanted to introduce the depth and beauty of French cuisine to Savannah but without the fussiness of a fine dining establishment. Herve, the head chef, was classically trained in France and worked at prestigious restaurants such as La Tour D’Argent, the historic establishment on which the movie “Ratatouille” was based. “Papillote” delivered on its promise - consistently ranking 4.7 out of 5 in restaurant surveys. Unfortunately, the property values on Broughton Street were such that the Didaillers decided to “cash in” and they closed their café in 2016 with Mr. Didailler using his new found wealth to go to dental school. Herve once said “Entering the kitchen is like entering religion. If you don’t have the faith, you’re not going to stay.” I guess Didailler lost the faith. How sad when you find a great restaurant to have it close! Our city just lost an iconic restaurant after a 71 year run! It's a tough business. Love the pics of the food and the macarons look wonderful.
