@jenn mccabe I always forget to copy/paste my journaling in! There are only a few times I don't want to share the journaling, so I just need to make it a habit and include it with my credits. And yes, what you see in the background is my MRI on screen. Thanks for the lovely comment!
Here's the journaling:
I had such high hopes about getting my back surgically repaired. I had seen Dr. Giovanani in October 2015 and he suggested fusion surgery. At that time I was having moderate pain control, but over the next 6 months, I began having increasing pain again. Dr. Giovanini suggested I return when the pain was no longer manageable. Once I decided I needed to proceed with surgery, I couldn’t get an appointment until September 2016. My pain management doctor suggested a second opinion from a neurosurgeon after having a new MRI performed. I was not prepared to hear what he had to say. Dr. Giovanani never once mentioned my weight as an obstacle for surgery, but this other neurosurgeon said I was not even a candidate for surgery until I lost 50 to 75 pounds. He also wanted a CT scan to look further at an area near my L5 nerve root. Dejected and disheartened, I waited to get the CT scan, and found out I have a large calcification at that area that’s causing my problems. He recommended double fusion surgery. At this time, I’m going to wait to see Dr. Giovanini in September, hoping that signficant weight loss isn’t a prerequisite to surgery and getting rid of this pain. Even if it is, I’d rather have him perform the surgery as his methods employ minimally invasive procedures. So now I’m taking it one day at a time. I’m trying to be kind to myself and make better choices for my body, and I’m reassurring myself that I’m going to get to the end of this journey, step by step.
i know you mentioned back issues before ... but my goodness Cheryl! I'm so sorry you had to hear that news. I struggle with losing weight and it's enough on its own without being in pain and worrying about serious spinal issues ! I hope Dr G can take care of you ... and hope you are not in too much pain until then. Huge hugs!
