Having a sibling is never easy, yet having a sibling with numerous special needs is even harder. Yet there has always been a very special bond between the two of you. Ever since the day Kai was born, you have watched over your brother protecting him from harm’s way. Like a little mother, you have sheltered your brother from the evils of the world. I remember you being only two years old and having your newborn baby brother upon your lap and you singing him to sleep while the construction of our new home went on around the two of you. Life for Kai hasn’t been easy and while you may not understand all the reasons why, you have come to terms that your brother is different than the norm. While the two of you may fight like siblings do, you have also become best friends. Your brother has a very limited vocabulary and has only about 100 known words. Others in the world may not understand everything he says, you have been his interpreter, his voice when he hasn’t had one of his own. You have patience well beyond your years and have stood by his side through quite a many massive melt downs. I am not quite sure how you do it, but you understand his quirks and his stims and help him find calm in rough situations. You sometimes have become his punching bag, and I am so sorry for that. Your brother does not understand his emotions and cannot control his anger. But never once have you complained or truly hurt him back. You never allow your brother to feel left out, you always include him in games at the park or even when you have slumber parties. (even if the other kids don’t want anything to do with him) The world can be a darn right cruel place for people who are different. Your brother has gotten his brunt of cruelty towards him: the rude remarks and the horrible name calling. You have been the best older sister a brother could ask for standing up for him and telling even adults off. My sweet Bianca Rose, you once said something that really stuck in my head, “Kai is like Rudolph, he may be different than the other “reighdeer” but in the end Santa loves him best”. Yes your brother is different but he is special in his own personal ways and you know that. You have gotten to experience that first hand. I am so happy that your brother has a special sister in his life like you. Both of you are truly blessed to have each other and I hope that your bond only continues to grow as you age. I love you to the moon and back again.
