I feel like I have known you forever but we have just met
I look and look and look at you and try to drink in and devour each breath and sigh and finger and toe
As if my eyes might be able to succeed in seizing each part of you, me, this moment; so that I can recall it again and again at each stage and age of my life and yours
Those toes are so tiny and impossibly small, so soft and warm on my finger tips
Your hand so tiny in mine
I cannot fathom that one day I was that small and one day you’ll be this big.
I feel like tomorrow I will open my eyes and I will see in yours the pondering of your bigness to another new smallness, and I will take your hand in mine and simple say, “I know.”
