Journaling:
I found a Living Social deal to go kayaking through the 7 Caves of La Jolla, and thought it was right up our alley! We got to the place and got dressed in our wet suits, then headed down to the beach to meet our group. The instructors told us the water was a little choppy, but we just had to get past the swell of waves near the beach and then it would calm way down once we made it out into the deeper part of the ocean. We were excited for this new adventure; kayaking in the ocean was going to be totally different than the calm waters of Biscayne Bay we had kayaked last year. We watched a few groups ahead of us go and they were STRUGGLING. We watched a couple groups try before deciding decided to quit, and others not try at all. That wasn't going to be us; we were determined and confident we could get past the waves to the calm waters beyond, and we were gonna see those dang caves! When it was our turn, the team helped us launch, but we almost immediately capsized. Bummer, okay, we'll go back to the beach and start again. We did, too; over and over and over. We would get to paddling for a bit, and I would be shouting all the encouraging words I could...a lot of “we're doing it babe!", but every time we capsized, it crushed our souls a little bit more. Eventually, we got too tired to keep trying and we to had to quit. I was devastated. I'm not a quitter, but I had ingested so much water, I was freezing, and way more exhausted than I realized until we got out of the water. It turns out the company had cancelled all tours after our time slot because the water was too rough, and I think only 2 or 3 boats from our group actually made it past the waves. The company offered to reschedule, but our itinerary didn't allow it. We went back to Brandon's and took hot showers and a nap before moving on to a more relaxing rest of our day! This will always be a what-if experience for me. Maybe we’ll try again someday!
My husband and I have talked about kayaking in the ocean but I don't know if I'd dare. Your photos definitely tell the story with that happy before photo and the sad after photo. I can't believe you braved those huge waves! Go you! I love the word art bottom right with the netting underneath. The orange ribbon over your title is my favorite! Thanks for scrapping our MOC multiple photos challenge!
Great job with the photos telling the story, starting out with so much promise, only to end in defeat. Sorry it didn't go as expected. I like the last photo with the word strip, really sets the mood. And love the journaling - great storytelling and you tried so hard! I like the blue lined background paper, like waves in the ocean. And love the orange ribbon - perfect shadowing. Wonderful page!
