"My Dad, what can I say? Sometimes words escape me. Dad has never been a man of many words, save the rare times he is jovial and then he will carry a good weight of the conversation.
A man of many words, no. A man of action, yes. Dad is my rock. He was steadfast all throughout
my life; a constant example of faith, love for God and family and country. Though he never served in the military,he taught us about patriotism. We learned gratitude from this- to honor those who sacrificed time with family, health, and even life.
Dad grew up in the World War II era where everything was hard to come by. He started working at nine years old, delivering the Mansfield News Journal. He never stopped working! He has a strong work ethic, and it was passed down to the four of us girls, and hopefully to all the foster kids who came under his wings. Dad gave me the tools to live; instructed us in the Word of God, introduced us to Jesus Christ, and lived that faith in front of us. Dad never yelled at us. He walked in authority and knew how to live under authority. Dad taught us the fear of God and the value of His Word. I am eternally grateful for this! Dad was among those who ordained my husband to the work of the ministry. Dad baptized our son, C.J. I was the only one of us four daughters whom he did not baptize. Dad was an elder and a Sunday School teacher for decades. But he was NOT religious. His serving came from a place of personal relationship with our Living God.
At one point, he was upset with Dan and me because we decided to attend a congregation other than that of our upbringing. He took us out of his will! But just a few years later, when we were on the mission field in Mexico, he and Mom were first to support us financially. He grew to understand our beliefs and respected them This was restoration for us. Though Dad and I haven't had many "deep" conversations like I would have liked,I have always said that Dad gave my life direction; he taught me how to live"
