There have been a lot of crazy things happening during this time. Love your documenting of this story. Will be interesting,I’m sure, for generations to come to read about.
I'm astounded at what is being banned in Michigan!! It seems so ridiculous! No wonder the people there are revolting! Being a former, proud Michigander, I'm having a real problem with what's going on there!!! Great documenting, Karen!!
Great page- I grew up fishing on my Grandpa's boat. I agree- there have been so many overreaching declarations and overreactions to this thing. While it is real, it still has yet to affect even 1% of our population. Maybe we would do things differently now if we could go back 2 months..?
Being a Michigander too I know many people who were upset about that too... I like to think it wasn’t the lone fisherman she was banning but where we live, there are many inland lakes that have lineups to get your boat in the chain of lakes, the pontoon boats that hold parties, the sand bars that people go to each weekend to party. Personally I think it was an unnecessary rule as who is doing that in Michigan in April!? Let a lone fisherman go out fishing if he wants too.
These are crazy times with governors and leaders shooting from the hip with their moment to moment decisions. That one does seem questionable. Golf courses here are closed but open in Missouri with rules of one golfer per cart unless they live in the same household. Every state seems to have different restrictions -- some extremely loose and some very restrictive. I'm in Illinois where we are under stay-at-home orders until May 31!
@Cherylndesigns Thankfully our governor loosened things up a bit again yesterday. She had closed off sections of stores that sold items she deemed non-essential, which seemed so stupid... if you're already in the store for groceries, why can't you pick up other things you might need too?
@Sokee I agree she wasn't targeting the fishermen with that ban, but it was short sighted to not allow a lone fisherman to go out. I think she realized that after the outrage from Michigan's MANY fisherman and that's why she loosened that rule up again. The marina's are all closed right now so all the pleasure boaters can't go out right now anyway because their boats are mostly in storage. My hubby did say that it was a good choice for the East side of the state because it was walleye season on the Detroit River and the boat ramps was JAMMED full of people getting in and out and there was no way to keep that safely distant. So for my hubby to say it was a good choice to shut that down (Walleye fishing on Detroit River is something he looks forward to all year) it must have been a good decision.
@flowersgal Our golf courses just opened up in Michigan again after yesterday's order. I'm not sure of the social distancing rules, but they aren't allowed to use golf carts right now. My of my best friends lives in Chicago and texted us when your stay at home got extended through May 31. It seems SO far away. When are to stay home until May 15th for now which seems like a more hopeful goal to wait for... even though I'm sure ours will be extended to the end of May too... it just seems easier to swallow in two week increments.
