Challenge Jan 11th - On this day
Great challenge to put some of my thoughts on Brexit onto paper. It still shocks me to the core, but I am safe now, even if Britain leaves the EU, I will not have anything to worry about.
Journalling reads:
I was feeling pretty proud on the morning
of March 10th, 2017. That is the day that I
received dual nationality and became
German as well as British. But a second
date is the trigger for this date.
On June 24th, 2016 at around about 7.30am
after waiting for the kids to leave for
school. I began pacing my kitchen in
front of the TV waiting and hoping and
praying that the vote in the UK would
not lead to a socalled “brexit”.
By 8.20am it was clear that although
only by a hairs-breadth Britain had
voted to leave the European Union. I was in shock. Having
lived in Germany for 37 of my then 47 years meant that I was not
entitled to vote, even though living as an expat abroad meant that the
first to feel any effects from the decision would be us. And I feel
European and did not want to leave the EU.
When I had calmed enough to go out and go shopping, I had to drive
past the town hall, I pulled into the car park on a whim, went in and
said “So, man hat mich gerade aus der EU gekickt, was muss ich
tun,um Deutsche zu werden!” (I have just been kicked out of the
EU, what do I have to do to become a German.
I left there with a whole load of papers to fill in, after sleeping on it
for one night, I knew that my best bet would be to fill them in and
become German, as even now, no one really knows what leaving
the eu will mean for those Brits living abroad.
Congratulations on attaining your dual citizenship! I really enjoyed reading your story. Brexit left so many people with so many questions. Love the blues and reds in your design. Beautifully scrapped. Thanks for playing along with my challenge!
