Interview with my sister about our Grandparent's place and growing up and remembering them.
Journal reads: [412 words]
We spent a lot of time at Grandma and Grandpa’s, especially during the summer. What were your memories of Meadowbrook?
Lori: When we were little, I loved going up and down the driveway with the wooden pull toys that Grandpa made. I remember the chicken one and just going up and down the driveway.
Cindy: I remember the chicken too, I think we probably fought over that one. I think there was a dog too. We would do laps around the grass median.
What were your favorite memories of Grandpa Brownie?
Lori: Grandpa had that one paring knife, which I still have and I use. It's my favorite knife! He could peel an apple in one peel. I remember sitting there watching him do that, he would take the whole peel off and then put it on the table and it would make an apple.
Cindy: I remember Grandpa’s squirrel. He would bring peanuts and the squirrel would climb right on his lap and take the nuts from him when he was sitting outside.
Lori: I remember Grandpa’s little licorice tin that was on that buffet in the dining room. Those were the weirdest candies. They were little black and yellow circle gummy licorice, I remember always wanting them because they were Grandpa's
Cindy: I remember those too. They were tiny and they stuck to your teeth, but they were the only kind he ate.
Lori: The red velvet pillow with the button in the middle, that was my pillow. I still have it. The foam is completely disintegrated, but it's in a pillow in my spare bedroom, but I won't get rid of it.
Cindy: I’m pretty sure Uncle Stanley (Aunt Dandy’s husband) made those pillows. I have a photo somewhere.
What were your favorite memories of Grandma Wanda?
Lori: I remember Grandma Wanda's oatmeal, I don't know why I can never get it to taste as good as she made it. It was probably the butter, brown sugar and whole milk...it was just so good.
Cindy: I remember her bottom drawer in her bedroom was filled with books, cards, coloring books, crayons, and small toys that we were allowed to play with when we came over. I often got bored and would watch her cook, sometimes she would let me help. Grandma was tough, there were a lot of things we weren’t allowed to touch. We did spend a lot of time outside with Grandpa when we were were little.
