In 1980, the genealogy bug grabbed me hard! I wrote letters, interviewed people, and searched cemeteries. In one of my interviews, my elderly cousin told me that her parents were buried in a small cemetery that used to be their land. However, she was not able to tell me where it was. There was no record of it in the Jackson County cemetery book. I finally had to give up looking for it.

Fast forward to 1986. My brother took his two boys fishing on one of the little creeks in the area. They were walking along the creek and came upon this small cemetery. He noticed the name Chisum. He decided to let his wife Brenda know. She called me so excited! The next day we were on a road trip to visit the cemetery! My brother has NO interest in genealogy - who would have ever guessed he would have solved one of my mysteries! (157 words)
