@flowersgal There is a story about the shoes but is a very sad story.
This is what Wikipedia said;
The Shoes on the Danube Bank is a memorial in Budapest, Hungary, to honour the Jews who were killed during World War II. They were ordered to take off their shoes, and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away. It represents their shoes left behind on the bank.
@ellenruberg. Thanks. I thought it might be something like that. I have been to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC where there is a display of a roomful of shoes taken from those on their way to the gas chambers. It made me cry and I felt some of the same sorrow when I saw your photo.
I nearly cried when I saw your layout in the gallery. I love that you used this photo for this particular challenge so it stands out, but also included the smaller photos on the edge help tell more of the story. It's a beautiful angle of the memorial.
