My journaling: Day 4: CHAMPAGNE BAY, Vanuatu
We got up early this morning and had our breakfast in the Windjammer Cafe as the ship had slowed right down as we approached the Island and it wasn’t rocking as much. We enjoyed the sight of the islands around us as we ate and because we finished our breakfast early we were lucky enough to board one of the early bird tenders over to Champagne Bay! Getting over to the Island early made it much less crowded on the beach. The bay was just BEAUTIFUL! The water was so crystal clear and was a blazing blue, it almost hurt our eyes! You could see all the way to the bottom of the bay ... it was just MAGIC. We jumped on a tour to go and look at the local highlights. We paid $10 Australian and climbed into the back of our tour guide’s (Marron) ute! Yes, that's right we did our tour in the tray of a ute sitting on wooden pews! We met a lovely family of 6 from Darwin who shared our tour with us. We all had such a GREAT time, it was just so much fun with the wind in our faces and the bouncing around from the rough tracks. We got a great shot of the ship when we got to the lookout and we learned a bit about the local community and their day to day lives. The ladies were taking the children to church that day and were al dressed in their colourful best (I didn’t take a photo, I thought it might be disrespectful of their worship) but they all looked so happy and bright. We stopped at the Blue Lagoon for a swim and that just blew our mind because it was just so stunning! It is a semi-fresh water lagoon where the water filters up through limestone and is such a glorious blue. After a refreshing swim Marron drove us back to the beach and seemed to think we might enjoy a more 4x4 experience and seemed to delight in bouncing through every pot-hole on the way! We thought it was hilarious! We had to get Marron to take a photo of al of us so that we could remember the fun time we had together! (440words)
