card: The Boston Custom House, built in 1847, became the city's first skyscraper in 1915 when a nearly 500 foot tower was completed on top of the classic Greek temple. It would remain Boston's tallest building until the mid-1960's. The tower has four eagle sculptures on each corner of the cornice and a four-sided clock which is illuminated at night. It culminates in a pyramidal top. In the mid-1980's, the custom department moved and the building stood empty until it was tuned into a Marriott Vacation Club hotel in 1999.
