Created for MOC 9 Day 23:
Interview About the Past
I used Pink Reptile Designs Captured
elements,
alpha and
papers.
JenEm and I interviewed one another. We both joined TLP in 2012. Goodness...I wish I could have gotten all the questions and answers on my page...but I got what I could.
This is a shared interview between Jen - JenEm, one of Sara Gleason’s very talented scrapbook artists and myself - Armygrl, a recent addition to the Pollywog Team. Jen and I both joined TLP in 2012. Jen joined in March as a Sara Gleason guest CT and has since been on Ms. Gleason’s team for nine years. I joined in September, enamored by digital designers such as Sara Gleason and totally in love with the C&S and traditional styles I was seeing in TLP’s galleries.
Why did you join TLP? Jen, “I am a storyteller. I landed at The Pad after Sara Gleason offered me a guest spot on her Creative Team. [And then] I discovered the monthly challenges at The LilyPad and have been hooked ever since.” I think she is hooked on the Month of Challenges too! For myself, “I was very attracted to Paislee Press, One Little Bird and Sara Gleason styled kits. I would say the digital designers attracted me, but I was always impressed with the community vibe at TLP and wide variety of layouts community members were posting.” Note: 99 words towards challenge.
Tell me about your first layout posted at TLP: Jen, “My very first layout here at The Pad featured a photo of my son when he was at preschool. They had dressed him up for photo day. That photo remains one of my favorite pictures of him. When I created the layout, I was cognizant of the fact that this little kid in the photo was growing up far too quickly. I was also trying to figure out how it was possible that I was the mother of a teen! When I look back at that page now, it makes me smile. Some things don’t change. His toe still curls up in the same manner, and when he is home, his electric guitar is never too far away!
Me, “The first layout I posted at TLP was “Wake Up Sleepy Head.” I made a simple, cascading art journal layout depicting my typical morning routine of having to get up very early to do physical training, but not wanting to get up and hitting the alarm clock many, many times in protest. I guess some things have not changed.
Has your scrapping style evolved or changed since 2012? Or do you have a signature style you tend to stick to? Jen, “Looking back on my first pages in the gallery, it is clear that shadows were not my forte lol! I like to think that my skills have improved since then! The majority of my scrapbooking pages are clean and simple. I have always loved white space, and photo-less pages. I am definitely becoming more adventurous, and my pages these days are fuller. Taking part in MOC and the monthly challenges has encouraged me to try new techniques. Most of my recent pages focus more on my own personal journey, and on nature. I am always so inspired by the wealth of talent we have here at The Pad, and I hope to continue to learn and grow as an artist.
Me: “You would never know it by looking at the layouts I posted in TLP in 2012 - 2013, but I was more of a digital artist and art journaler rather than scrapbooker. I made lots of Art Journal styled layouts back then and followed Tangie Baxter in the Art Journal Caravan. But what drew me into the TLP was a more traditional, Clean and Simple style layout. I wanted to make art and make layouts. Over the years, I have remained eclectic in my style(s)!!! I love them all!!!” 420 words towards challenge.
Total words towards challenge: 519
Me: I am very honored for this opportunity to get to know Ms. Jen. Her gallery is gorgeous! I truly enjoyed looking through her photo journey and witnessing her son grow up. In her current style, I love the way she blends her nature photos into neutral papers then adds even more photos on top. I think she has definitely mastered the shadow! 25 JAN 2021
