One summer about 4 years ago Brad and I went for a drive up to Lake Isabella, Ca. Once we got there we decided to rent a boat and go out on the water for a couple hours. While out on the water I was able to take some great photos of a pair of hawks and their nest. The hawks were taking turns guarding the nest that was located out in the middle of the lake on an old tree that had been either knocked over by the waters or rotted out by the water. The wildlife refuge had used the tree to build platforms that the hawks could build their nests on. We were able to get fairly close without disturbing the birds. Also whole out on the lake I was able to get some gorgeous photos of the sky with all its fluffy clouds that day. I used both the photo of the hawks and a photo of the sky to create this blended image. The clouds appear to encircle the hawks and their nest and I believe it made a rather interesting photograph. overall. I had a lot of trouble getting the photo just right so that you didn't see a bunch of hard lines around the hawks. The result is so wonderful though I just do not mind the work that went into it, It gives a rather blissful and imaginative perspective of the protective birds and their young. I only wish we could have seen the babies in their nest as well. After speaking with the gentleman renting the boats he told us the young have hatched and occasionally you can see them pop up their heads.
