I love to experience new things, to learn from them. One of my favorite things to learn about are different cultures and religions. I love to hear about other people beliefs, their upbringings, their experiences when it comes to their cultures and their religions. One of my very best friends is Hindi. Before I met her I knew very little about the Hindi or Punjabi cultures but when she and I became such close friends I dove into learning all I could about her culture and religion. I attended a few ceremonial events with her both at her home and her temple and I enjoyed it so much! I love tasting the different foods and seeing the differences in buildings, and customs! The colors of the Hindi and Punjabi cultures are amazing!! The jewel tones and all the sparkle!!!! What girl wouldn't want to be a part of it?? I am so in love the the outfits the "Suits" the women wear in the gorgeous colors with all the jewels attached! It makes my heart flutter.
This photo is from one of the events Manmeet had for her daughters 1st birthday at the Temple. When you attend temple it is expected that women cover their heads/hair and when you enter the temple you must remove your shoes, the women sit on one side and the men on another, and you sit on the floor cross legged. (Not an easy task to complete when you have back problems) Hinduism prescribes the "eternal" duties all Hindus have to follow, regardless of class, caste, or sect, such as honesty, refraining from injuring living beings, purity, goodwill, mercy, patience, forbearance, self-restraint, generosity, and asceticism(severe self-discipline and avoidance of all forms of indulgence). On this day the leaders of the church (All men) read non-stop from their holy book called the Mahabharata taking turns throughout the day and night. People will come and go from the temple while listening to the readings and occasionally pausing for prayer.
