MOC10_D26_Professor Janice Rymer

Description
I had so many thoughts and ideas about this one, but I wanted to do something a bit different, as I would normally chose a pet or a family member to journal about with this theme.
I chose Professor Janice Rymer, a remarkable Ob-Gyn that changed my life forever.

My journaling reads (383 words)-
To be able to tell you all about Professor Janice Rymer, I need to tell you a teeny bit about me first. I had had fibroids removed at the age of 31, but I
was still not quite right. Professor Rymer was the first person to correctly diagnose my endometriosis (I was 34) and thus changed my life.
Professor Rymer trained in New Zealand and moved to the UK in 1987, she has said that she wanted to be like the professor she trained under and understand
and help her patients as much as possible. she has had a very successful career, she is now a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King's College London and a consultant gynaecologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, she is also a vice president of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
She has said that at the heart of it is her desire to help women get the obstetric care that they need. In the UK she is considered a national expert in HRT and has spent a large part of her career and energies trying to debunk the myths around HRT. so that post-menopausal women can get the treatment they need to
live a better life during this taxing period. she has said that poor medical advice and sensationalised media coverage of HRT has prevented many women from reaping the benefits of this treatment. Professor Rymer has always struck me as someone that is striving to help women medically. this can’t have been easy for her, as she came of age in an era when ‘female problems’ were underfunded, under-researched and basically ignored. Thanks to Professor Rymer many women in the UK have had their issues taken seriously and correctly diagnosed and treated. To me, she is the beacon of what ob-gyn’s should be and thanks to her I have paid much more care and attention to the character of the people that treat my ‘female problems’ and not just their medical creds. she enjoys teaching others, she
runs a large clinic that helps women get the care they need, it also provides training and education for the next generation of doctors. My body is extraordinarily grateful that she was working in my city when it needed this remarkable woman the most.
