I live in Utah and have lived here my whole life!
When Rob and I got married 26 years ago, he was offered a job in San Francisco with one of the big six accounting firms. It would start after he graduated, so we flew out to there and looked for an apartment in Walnut Creek. Boy, rent is expensive there! We were wined and dined by the firm and had a fun trip to San Fran, but ultimately we decided to stay in Utah after he finished his MBA at the U. It was a hard decision for us because we wanted to further Rob's career, but I had a good job here with 3M Health Information Systems and both our families are here.
Rob's family is super closeby (some 5 minutes away and others 20 minutes away at most). Almost all of my family is here in Utah too. Our big kids are going to college in state, so being close to them is important too.
We love all the wonderful things Utah has to offer. I can look out the window and see the mountains. We have 5 national parks and 7 national monuments here. I haven't been to all of them yet, but if Rob gets his way, we will. We just bought a used camp trailer, so I see lots of camping trips to beautiful places in Utah in our future. We have lakes, rivers, trails, ski resorts, you name it... the list goes on and on.
I also like living here because of the neighborhood we live in. Everyone is friendly and it's a safe area. Our house is located on a small half street so it's protected from all the traffic, unlike our previous house. It was on the corner of a frontage road,so all the traffic coming into the neighborhood went passed us. The noise from the freeway was loud too, so you couldn't talk to each other easily outside.
Here at our current location we have great freeway access, but none of the noise. The only noise we have here is the sound of the jets from Hill Airforce Base banking overhead when they do maneuvers. But even that's not bad, and we call it the "Sound of Freedom!"
I love where we live and I guess that's why we've been here so long (21 years) and even remodeled our home last year. We are close to all the shopping and the kids' schools. There's a church on almost every corner, and we're close to friends and family. I love living in Utah and the only thing that would get me to leave is, if Rob got a job offer where we had to relocate out of state. That and maybe if I had grandkids who lived out of state, but I'm jumping ahead there.
This is so beautiful! I love the big scripted love! I loved reading about your home! The mountains are spectacular, and being near to family is so important!
Great journaling, Kayla! Sounds like you made a great decision way back when! Great clusters and I love the bit Utah! Wonderful page for the challenge!
I love this, Kayla! And what a great combination of supplies to make this page. It's perfect in every way! While I don't see myself ever living in Utah again, I totally relate to the sentiments in your journaling. It's definitely a very special place.
