I started painting the raised edges of the gesso, and pretty soon it was all painted, as if the light were running out of the photo onto the background. So I added the title and painted those edges too. The photo is of a very cool installation at the Science Museum in London; the title is the first line of a song by Simon & Garfunkel, The Sound of Silence. The first line of the 2nd verse continues, "my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light." So, there's my thought process, for some value of "thought."
