Journaling:
A Love Story Then: When Kathryn was a sophomore at Oklahoma State University in 2010, she was attracted to a young man in the choir at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. They flirted just a little, but then school was out for the summer. When she returned for her junior year, the light flirting resumed. In November 2011, Silas finally asked her to go see a ghost town with him and she wasn’t sure if it counted as a date or just an outing with a friend….until he kissed her when he dropped her off at her apartment. She was in love. Then he asked her to go out for a drink with him and she had to tell him that she wasn’t 21 years old yet! He thought she was probably a graduate student. They continued to date, but he was also looking for another job that would take him out of Stillwater. He found a new job and it was in Oklahoma City, which is only an hour away. They decided to continue dating. They met in Guthrie about once a week for dinner and then they got together on the weekends. They continued to date and things were getting serious. She told him that she felt called to get a Masters of Divinity degree and the school that she wanted to attend was in Ohio and it takes four years to graduate. Silas told her that they would make it work. They used technology to keep in touch. They texted “good morning” and “good night” every day with many other texts in between. They had a couple Skype dates a week and even watched the same Netflix movie together while on Skype. They always were together for New Year’s Eve and Valentine’s Day. Silas proposed at midnight as the year 2016 began!
Now: After dating for six years, Kathryn has graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s of Divinity and she and Silas are married. She is in training at the VA Hospital to be a chaplain in Oklahoma City and they no longer have to text each other “good morning” and “good night”!
