The great Hank Aaron said " Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging" These kids lost their junior varsity baseball season and most of their senior season to COVID. Teammates since middle school, they couldn't wait to get on the varsity field together. Once school shut down, they fell into a rhythm of online classes in the morning and afternoons on the field. They met every day to "practice" baseball but it was really the social connections that they needed. Fast forward to 2021 and they were facing a shortened 10 game senior varsity schedule since football was pushed to the spring. Our coach found a winter league about an hour away so they carpooled two to three times a week together and ended up winning the league championship. They went on to win the regular season conference for school ball on a thrilling win over a big rival. Fast forward to 2023 and they are still going to college football games together. One of the guys is getting married this year and they will be his groomsmen. The class of 2021 had a rough time of it. I am so proud of these kids for making the best of it together as friends. I am thankful my son has this group of buddies and hope they "keep swinging".
I love that they stuck with their baseball practices against all odds, and that they were able to play together in a second league to extend their playing time together! They are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends!
Oh my gosh, this is so great!! What a fabulous story of friendship! I love that they were able to keep their connections through all the trying times! Thanks so much for playing along with my challenge!
