Dear future self:
I have watched you for a few years now, and some things don’t change, do they? Did you learn to say that two letter word yet - "no"? It’s about time! Such a simple word, but apparently so hard to express. Be stronger, say it, and stop caring what other people think of you. You're too old for that. Spend your time and energy with the people you love. Don't waste it trying to please everyone else. I guess you thought, when you hit a certain age, that your confidence would automatically just be there, that past worries would be gone, and you would feel all accomplished. Well, it's not too late, but you have to work on it. There's no reason for you to be anything else than confident. Also, you have dreaded the day when the kids will leave their nest. By kids, I mean the two young adults just starting to make their own way in the world. Don’t spend all day and night worrying about them. They will be fine! Trust that you taught them well, that they know right from wrong, and that they will land on their feet. Chances are they will. Sure, there will be bumps in the road, but that's when you'll be there to help. There will always be moments when you'll want to give them unsolicited advice, if you see they are heading in the wrong direction, but it's their mistake to make. I hope you can see now, that everything happens for a reason. All the things, good or bad, are just pieces of the puzzle that is our life, to make up the person we have come to be. Sure, reflect back on your life, but don't dwell on past mistakes and regrets. They taught you something, didn't they? They made you who you are. Be proud of it!
In closing, also remember this: Keep a sense of humor, don’t take life too seriously, and, as always, keep dreaming!
