For the August Journaling challenge. So, I tend to be of the mindset that when you marry, you start your own family, and that new family takes precedent. Not everyone feels that way, but that's what my journaling focuses on.

Journaling: family is simple, and complicated. it’s compromise and understanding. it’s acceptance and letting things go. sometimes it’s selfish. sometimes it’s all encompassing. it’s keeping the peace and taking a stand. it’s never boring, never complacent. it’s quiet mornings and rowdy weekends. it’s taking your values and experiences and sharing them with others. it’s leaving one unit and starting another. it’s reliance, on others and on yourself. it’s creating memories and planning for the future. it’s realizing that others matter, sometimes more than yourself. it’s unconditional love. it’s surprises and celebrations. it’s messy and chaotic and busy. it’s wisdom and learning, give and take, highs and lows. family shapes who you are, and who you want to be. it ebbs and flows, evolves and shifts. it’s light and shadows. it expands and contracts. it’s never a straight line, but full of curves and corners. It’s blessings and grace. it’s familiar and comfortable. it’s yours. nurture it and care for it, embrace the beauty and mess.
