Life Doesnt Stop for Christmas

I wasnt supposed to be on the phone. I didnt want to have to explain why the phone didnt ring, and I thought if I ignored the call waiting beeps, they would stop. I had no idea it was my aunt calling that Christmas Eve to say that Paw-Paw had died.I did get in trouble, of course, when Sue finally got through. But Mom didnt have much time to be upset, since we all had to pack our bags and get in the car for the ten-hour drive to Texas. We spent Christmas Day on the road. Most gas stations are closed, so we had to stop every time we saw an open one. We ate at a truck stop. Nothing else was open.The next few days, rather than enjoying our presents, we made funeral preparations. Christmas was hard for Mom and Maw Maw for many years after that. It was definitely a hard time for us all, but I try to remember how awesome Paw Paw was every Christmas. He is missed, but Im glad I knew him.
