Let it go
These are the words that came to mind when I read this challenge. To connect with myself, I have to find time where it is just me - no meetings, no demands, no calls, no events, no people. I take a deep breath, several of them, close my eyes, and imagine letting go of the string tied to a helium balloon. I watch it drift up into a bright blue sky, caught by the winds, rising up and floating away. This image clears my mind, settles and grounds me, and connects me to myself.
Finding the quiet place in my mind can come from this quick, almost instantaneous visualization that lets my creative heart recharge. I try to find these small moments whenever I can, in the practicalities of my day. That first sip of coffee in the morning, pausing to watch the sun rise or set, or gazing out at my bird feeders watching the wrens, cardinals or blue jays enjoy a small feast. When possible, I'll take a little more time and sit on the patio in the warm sunshine, reading a good book. Or spend time in nature - taking a walk, sitting under a tree, wandering among the flowers, finding marvels - small and large - to photograph. All these things bring a sense of peace and quiet to my mind, allowing me to recharge, reconnect, and center.
