January 31: Traveler's Notebook + Connections

I had heard about my mom's cousin Kathy all my life
but had never met her. Her father and my grandfather were
brothers, Kathy moved away from Michigan many
decades before I was even born. Mom lost contact
with her family after the 1960s. In 2017 I got a
message on my Facebook messenger from a person
saying she was Kathy and was I related to the Davis
family. It was cousin Kathy! She and I have been
talking and sharing photos and seeing how much we
have in common! The ironic thing was that Kathy asked
where I lived now and when I told her the name of the
town and she knew exactly where this was!
I now live in is the same town Kathy's maternal family
has lived in since the 1800s! Kathy visited her grandma
in this city back in the 1940s.
We both love collecting dolls and paper dolls
and doing crafty things and talking about history
I can't believe how much we have in common
yet we had never met! She never even knew I existed.
the last time she saw my mother, mom was a little
girl. I'm so glad we found each other after all this time
