What a wonderful story! And to think that it may have been disposed of. Lucky that someone in the family was sensitive enough to salvage it. You did a great job of restoring it. And any time you are in the area, feel free to stop by to help me with my restoration projects.
@mcurtt LOL! I'd love to stop by if I'm in your area but that was a lot of year ago (in the late 1970's I think) and I pretty much learned that stripping furniture and refinishing was not my forte! Anyway, you are doing a fantastic job with your printers chest. And I suspect that I will be the last in my line to treasure this chest and none of my kids or grandkids appreciate "old stuff" even if it does have a history.
What a wonderful story and a huge part of your family's history, Patsy! I'm sure it had layers and layers of paint on it! It's restored beautifully now and I love how you hung the key from one of the pictures. It seems like the real keys always got lost. What a wonderful page!!
What a great way to memorialize the story behind the chest of drawers! It makes you think about how many stories there are behind so many items that we'll never know. I love that you restored it. It's a definitely a timeless piece.
@DigiGrace, @Cherylndesigns, @SeattleSheri. Thanks for taking the time to read my journaling. So glad you enjoyed it. This challenge has given me an idea of how I might do a whole album like this -- preserving stories and photos of things that descendants don't really want but they might enjoy reading about and seeing photos of.
I am amazed by the family heirlooms I keep reading about. So cool to have something that's "lived" for so long! Thank you so much for telling its story!
