I started scrapbooking way back when there was just construction paper, white glue, and big books with stiff brown paper pages. Back then, I was a big Yankees fan so my scrapbook contained newspaper clippings. My “embellishments” were colorful geometric shapes, usually triangles crisscrossing the page. I enjoyed this activity simply because it was fun.
In the 1980’s when scrapbooking became immensely popular in the U.S. (thanks to Marielen Christensen, founder of “Keeping Memories Alive”) I took it up again. Like most paper scrappers, I accumulated a “ton” of “product” including ribbons, buttons, brads, plain and wonderfully patterned papers, card stock, adhesives, etc. Later came die cutting machines, fancy punches, and numerous tools. My husband knew whenever we would travel I’d scope out a scrapbooking store to visit. I was a “paper junkie”, keeping even the smallest little piece of paper because you never knew just when you would need a tiny piece to be the perfect accent to your page. Now I was scrapbooking as a hobby and dreaming of having a room in my house converted to a craft room.
In 2003 or 2004, I discovered digital scrapbooking. I already had converted from film cameras to digital ones so using the computer was comfortable for me. At a paper scrapbooking convention in Jacksonville, FL, I attended a seminar on digital scrapbooking. I was so excited and quickly bought my first Adobe Photoshop program. After a few on-line classes to learn how to use this program for scrapbooking (thank you “Scrapper’s Guide”), I was hooked. For a short while, I kept all my paper supplies and did hybrid projects. That soon ended and I now scrap exclusively on the computer. I LOVE this medium. It is versatile and you can do things you couldn’t even imagine doing in the paper world. I like how portable digital scrapbooking can be – as long as I have a computer and the internet, I’m good! Now I scrapbook for the artistic pleasure it brings me, especially since I’ve retired and can devote more time to it. Today I scrapbook for artistic pleasure - I tell people I create digital art.
Much of the art I create now are Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s)

Great storytelling! Loved reading your journaling and I love the fanned solid papers and the triangles on your page echoing your earliest scrapbook days. Great page! Thanks for playing along with my challenge!
I very much enjoyed reading about your paper to digi journey. One day, I hope to go back to paper...I love construction paper and brown paper bags. Uh, yea. Probably a paper junkie too!!!! And a room in the house dedicated to crafts would be pure delight! Anyways...much love for your use of symbols here...from the construction paper to the glue, to the scrapbook and the computer.
