JOURNALING: According to Omaha artist Matthew Placzek, “Illumina” is his largest and most important work. This $2 million public art project graces the grounds of the Century Link Center in Omaha. Dedicated in May 2007, the creation is a circus-themed installation including a 35 foot stainless steel clock, six oversized bronze figures and two dogs, all accented by illuminated spheres. Placzek says he tries to create art that people can relate to and he hopes to evoke an emotional reaction. Details, starting at top left: saxophonist, French mime, Mardi Gras celebrant, terrier, night scene; starting at top right: horn player with clock, 14’ tall stilts walker, juggler, spaniel.
