There are 2 ways to get this blend effect:

1)Have 2 layers of paper.. the white and the striped. On the striped paper add a mask to it and then using the gradient fill tool from black to transparent, Use your mouse and on the mask and drag the mouse from the right side to the middle and that mask out the pattern (striped) paper to show the white paper reflecting the blend. You continue with the gradient masking untill you get the blend you want.

Or:

2)The other way you can do it is with a gradiant fill layer on a blank layer above the pattern paper and have the color to transparency displayed. Then again using the mouse drag the mouse from right to left and it will gradient fill in the layer giving the blend effect.
