all from A Whimsical Adventure's "Home Sweet Home" This recipe is a family treasure. From my great-grandmother's Portuguese side of the family, this onion and potato rich recipe traveled to the US with my Portuguese ancestors.
This particular copy has so much value in it, for me, as it is from my great uncle (who passed in 2013) to my mother (who passed in 2014) and bears the marks of use.
My uncle made this recipe this past Thanksgiving, and for the first time in many years the house was filled with the scent of HOME. While I no longer eat it (I am vegan) the smell alone transported me back to family holidays around the large table set with china and crystal. I could almost feel the texture of my grandmother's turquoise and silver table cloth under my fingertips.
Who ever said that you can't go home again lied... because home is with you always.
Estir, this is wonderful and what a precious recipe and memory. I loved reading your journaling and that last sentence just got me with "all the feels". How wonderful that even though you are vegan now, just smelling it when your Uncle made it this year transported you "home" in your memories. An ordinary recipe to some has so much life in it when the story is mixed in with it. Truly and heirloom for sure!!! I love the home elements and paper used .. the heart, the bow, string and key.. perfect in every way. Thank you for sharing and playing along with my MOC11 day 7 Heirloom Challenge. Beautiful!
