Happiness is Homemade

The last month has been a big one for you. You have officially crossed over into the toddler-ish phase. Long gone are the days when you would stare at me from the couch, longing for me to pick you up and sling you over my hip. We are now at the age where you want to crawl everywhere. It amazes me that it took you this long to crawl, what with seeing your big brother run circles around you. But you now decided to follow suit. You stare at something with such intensity and the it’s like all of a sudden, a light goes on and you realize that you can have that thing. So you take off, you crawl normally on the rug, but once your little toes reach the deep wood you change your step. You start to crawl with one leg and use the other one to push you off. It makes me laugh every time.

Watching you grow makes me realize how important it is to grow our bond. I feel like a big part of growing our bond is going to be practicing what I preach. Growing up I had terrible issues with my body. I never thought I was pretty enough, skinny enough or good enough compared to everyone else. It was a very tough thing to go through. Growing up with a mom who was perfect in my eyes but I was nothing like her. I look at you Asia and I see such hope. I promise you that I will help you with everything. I will teach you to love your body inside and out. I will help you along the way and I won’t scrutinize you for every piece of food that goes into your mouth. Enjoying food is an amazing thing. But along with that is getting outside and exercising. I promise you that I will go outside with you whenever you and your brother want to.

Seeing all of these issues in me makes me want to protect you from them. Protect you from hating your body more than you love it. Proving to you that you can have your cake and eat it too. .
