the grist mill out at homestead heritage is one of my favorite places on the collective farm. from the pretty stone building to the tranquil sound of the water wheel, i could sit out there by it for awhile and just relax. maybe it's the whole ambiance the slower pace of the farm that draws me in, but i can't help but feel peaceful when i'm out there. the fact that this particular day just so happened to be a gorgeous and cool fall morning made the appeal even greater. while we ere there, don even learned that they use a simple corn cob as the ball bearing in the actual mill. even more amazing is that it has only been changed once in the past sever years and the young man said that it didn't really need to be replaced then. it's such a remarkable and timely reminder to me how the simple things are always the best.
