Description
[GRATITUDE] SPIRIT ANIMALS

As a white American woman, I doubt I can appreciate the depth of meaning this tradition has in its original cultures. I feel a bit awkward even giving it a try. So I decided to come at it in my own, personal, unique way; not meaning to imply any profound spiritual or cultural resonance. I chose some creatures that amuse me. I found an old page that both amused and had meaning for me. And I chose two animals that I’ve encountered, personally or metaphorically, that seem to speak to and about me: the badger and the porcupine.

For 30 Days of Gratitude, an art journaling challenge at The Lilypad. I used two templates for this page, one from Little Butterfly Wings & the other (twice) from Dawn Inskip. Other elements are from Anna Aspnes, Tangie Baxter, Quirky Heart, Graphics Fairy, Dawn Inskip, farfarhill, Little Butterfly Wings, Lifescapes, Holliewood, and Crowabout. The quotes are from www.Spirit-Animals.com. FONTS: The Jessica & Action Jackson.

DREAMLAND elements are from TlcCreations, Vintage Images, Anna Aspnes, Jodie Lee, Holliewood, Sherrie JD, Vintage Printable, Beth Rimmer, BibliOdyssey, Ida Designs, Marta van Eck, Rebecca McMeen, and Tangie Baxter. DREAMLAND is one element short of 50% Lilypad; I hope that’s close enough. I really wanted to include it.

love the frame overlayed watercolour animals contrasting with the hypercolour ones on the left!

Love your selections!

I can understand and appreciate your cultural sensitivity. I'm torn in that I have a small amount of Native American heritage, but I've always felt like an imposter claiming it. Our family's heritage was lost through my mom being adopted, but she was always interested in finding out about that part of our lives. While I was growing up, we had Native foster kids for years and years, took classes, and learned so much. We still haven't been able to officially trace our lineage, but it sure wasn't for lack of (my mom) trying. :) Ironically, my mom wasn't ever as interested in the spirit animals, but I've always had the feeling that certain animals spoke to me, so it has been an interest of mine.
