Journaling (178 words):
My paternal grandmother was Mennonite.
I spent a large portion of my first six
years with her, at her small farm. It was
just over a mile away from my parents'
house. She wore this covering every day.

It was only on a few, rare occasions that
we saw her without it. Those times felt
strange, unnatural. In the morning before
we went to the barn we would catch her
without it. We knew what it meant to her.
She shared her faith openly and was eager to explain
her beliefs and share her faith.

I remember going to church and being excited about
the day that I too, could wear a covering like this.
I wanted to demonstrate my faith as well. I wanted to be more like her.

I never wore the covering. My parents separated just before I became a
teenager and we left the church. However Grandma's covering came to me
after her death. It is a daily reminder to me of the faith she taught
me and the woman I aspire to be.
What a beautiful page with beautiful memories! I'm sure your grandmother would proud that you have her covering. Thank you so much for joining the storytelling challenge!
