journaling: Do you remember how you met? Me: In a sewing class 7 years ago. She had come with a girlfriend, that dropped out a few weeks later. That day she had a notebook and she was doodling owls on the last page, and I was like "wow, what a cool person! I wish we were friends!". And guess what, we became friends!
V.: In a sewing class in September 2013. Why did you took that class? Me: I wanted to learn how to sew and I wanted to buy a sewing machine.
V.: I wanted to do something creative with my time; my mornings were free, because my daughter had just started school. My mom had also taken the same class many years ago, and I thought it would be a good start. Did you like the class? Do you remember anything? Me: I never regretted it. First of all, because it wasn't an expensive class to begin with. I can't say that I remember much, but it gave me the confidence to actually buy the machine and start using it.
V.: It wasn't what I expected. It was more focused on making clothes from scratch, and I didn't actually like it. I wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine, how to mend clothes, how to make accessories, like bags and pouches; the tutor didn't insist much on that stuff. What was the best thing about this class? Me: I made a new friend; the following year we took another craft class (crocheting) and spent many mornings together. We used to meet downtown, shop for yarn and other craft supplies, and end up in a coffee shop, where we'd chat and crochet (before it was cool!).
V.: It was the start of a creative journey: after that I did crocheting, jewelry making and pottery. Now I'm hooked with pottery! And of course I made new friends (real friends, not the FB kind!).
