When I was a kid, I lived in a super small village near Lübeck in
Schleswig-Holstein, which is the most northern state of Germany. It was a small place, everybody knew each other. There were several farmers in our neighborhood with pigs, cows and chicken. There was a school in earlier times but actually we had to drive the bus to a bigger village nearby for school. During that time nearly all houses were placed so they had a view over the surrounding fields on one side. The fields started right where the property would end. At the end of the fields you could sometimes see the woods on the horizon. Our garden was pointing south-west and we would watch sunset through the huge windows when the weather allowed. Nothern Germany has a particularly mild weather due to the nearby seaside on the east and west coast. Still there are only three to four months in a year when it was warm and usually dry enough to enjoy the outdoors. I have 3 older brothers and once I was potty trained, we would roam the village, the fields and the woods together with friends. The summers were magical. We would basically stay outside on our own during the day and just let things happen. I don't know how we usually didn't get into trouble, as my brothers were pretty wild and famous for their mischief. One day though, we decided to go into the nearby woods. I'm not sure now how we came to that decision, but most probably my eldest brother just wanted to, so we went. It wasn't allowed to go into these woods, as there was a built military camp. Several times during the year the army would practice shooting and maneuver. We would watch it during the nights as they were using fireworks like ammunition and it looked fancy. On that day, we couldn't 100% know if someone was there but it was very unlikely as it was summer holiday time. So we went. There was a tiny foot path to the woods, where only horses would walk. It was maybe one or two km before we reached the sign to not trespass. There was a short discussion if we really should continue past this point but we made it this far, so we would go. There weren't many buildings, only weirdly built hills with doors and dusty streets. My brothers didn't know much about what this was all for but they tried to explain what they could figure out. Then we found a bigger building with a huge shed on one side. The shed was open. There was a haystack in there. About two floors high. We had never seen so much hay in one place. The stack's peak was leaning towards the wall of the house. A little bit above the peak was an opening in window size but no glass in it. My brothers were keen on getting to that opening to jump into the hay. We looked around the house and found an open door to get in. On the third floor we found the opening to the hay stack and my brothers and their friends were all jumping into the hay. It must have been an awesome feeling. I wasn't jumping as I was too anxious. It was definitly too high for me. After a while we looked through the house a little bit more. It was equipped for military practice. Some platform beds with the typical army covers and pillows. We were playing in the dorm, obviously. We totally lost time and didn't care for anything. We knew it was absolutely forbidden to be there and there was this exciting feeling that comes with doing something we shouldn't do. We weren't destroying anything, it was just innocent play in an army building. Suddenly two officers with arms were standing in the door. It was a total shock. Where did they come from, how did they know? They weren't yelling or anything, them just standing there was a threat in itself. They basically just complimented us out of the building and escorting us to the end of the military area. We were running home, everyone in different directions. It was a wild day even for us feral kids. We will never forget what happened, our parents though will never get to know that it happened.

Sounds like a fab childhood, despite the military escort on one of your adventures ! I love the way you built up the page, and the elements you used.

The photo is awesome! I love that you just enjoyed playing despite the danger. I wonder if the officers were in shock to see kids jumping in their dorms? Thanks for playing in my challenge!
