For the past few years we have been working with you on floating on your back. For some reason this concept scares you? You are not afraid to do it with a floaty on in the pool, but without no way. Sweet boy, you have been taking swim lessons since you were three now and you are quite a good swimmer. You haven’t used floatys in the pool in a few years. So I find it odd you ask for one when you want to float on your back. I made it my mission to teach you how to do it correctly, and being a life guard and on the swim team for years, trust me your mommy knows how to do a proper float! I showed you quite a few times, but you were still very scared to do it on your own.
I had Eric get behind you and hold you up gently with his hands. You trust him and it made it easier for you to float. I think a part of your problem is that you do not blow your tummy up enough to give you a good float and you sink. We practiced a few times before you were feeling totally comfortable. Then I had Eric gently remove his hands and you floated a few seconds on your own before you freaked out and wanted Eric’s hands back there again to hold you safe. Silly boy! You were doing it on your own just fine! We will keep practicing throughout this summer and trust me little man, by the end of the summer you will be floating alone!
