I'm not a buddhist, but they have such a nice view of the world, and I don't mind "stealing" the ideas. Found some old notes from 2014, where I try to summarize the buddhism as I understand it.
Everything in life is DUKKHA (unsatisfaction) because everything is imperfect. The only way to be free from dukkha is to reach NIRVANA.
Dukkha is caused by desire and greed. Everyone is basically selfish, and want to do whatever they want to do.
That nothing is eternal, that you know everything will end, is also a cause to dukkha. Even when you are happy, you know that it will come to an end.
You can overcome greed and selfishness by following the Eightfold Path
1. Right view
Understand life from the buddhist teachings and follow the basics
2. Right intention
Be a good person and do good. Be unselfish
3. Right speech
Don't lie. Don't hurt. Don't curse. Talk nicely and be helpful.
4. Right action:
Don't hurt others or yourself. Don't kill. No alcohol and drugs. Don't be dishonest. Don't steal. Be faithful.
5. Right livelihood:
Live so you don't hurt others or yourself. Work hard after your abilities. Don't have a work that hurt others.
6. Right effort:
Become a better person and don't do bad things. Make an effort to do good.
7. Right conciousness
See things for what they really are. Live here and now.
8. Right concentration
Meditate. Train your mind to concentrate on the here and now, without it wandering. Focus.
So logical and right.
So incredibly hard!
