In June of 1994, my husband and I made a trip to the mall. This trip, however trivial, would change our lives forever. We passed a pet shop window and decided to enter. In the middle of the shop was a fish tank filled with ferrets. All were asleep except for one. I put my arm in the tank and it climbed up my arm. Of course I made the joke that "look it wants to come home with us! " That was the beginning and that ferret\'s name was Franklyn. She would be the very first in a long line of ferrets that would worm their way into our lives and hearts. It was bittersweet. They taught us about love, and how fragile life really is. Several of our fuzzy friends joined our family because others didn\'t want them anymore. Something that many people don\'t realize is that ferrets get cancer a lot. There were happy times. There were also many veterinarian visits, chemo, remissions, and relapses. In 2014, almost twenty years to the date of bringing our first ferret home, Charlie crossed the rainbow bridge. With his passing we decided that although we loved our ferrets dearly, we would not be getting anymore. I still think about all the crazy things they did, and it always brings a smile to my face. I am grateful for all the happy memories we were able to share with them through the years.
