"We had no idea what this ice storm would bring when it was forecast. What we did find was it was an event like the end of the world. Power was off in the city for a full week and there was no groceries at the store even if you could drive there. One Braums restaurant location remained open and you could buy a bag of burgers to keep you going assuming you could get there early enough in the day. We cooked hot dogs and beans over the fireplace and took turns sleeping on the couch in a large pile of blankets with layers of clothes on to stay warm. When it thawed enough to drive,many like us escaped to nearby towns with electricity, food, and a warm bed.”
